Manuscripts

Update: Legendary musician Phil Guy and Lisa Mallen teamed up the last few years to
promote Phil Guy and the Chicago Machine for festivals, clubs, corporate events, private parties, colleges, schools and weddings - And - they partnered to bring the blues to the schools - In their off time, Lisa interviewed and asked questions and wrote all the great stories Phil had to tell, for their upcoming book, both Phil and Buddy Guy, which is a co-author partnership by Lisa and Phil. It is an adult book, however Lisa hopes to have both the chapter book for all ages and and children's picture book published.

Update: It is with a sad heart that I mention Phil passed away August 20, 2008 from complications of prostate cancer. I am contiuuing our efforts to revise my manuscript and get the books published.

Paige Persnickety’s Purr-fect Pet

A fiction picture book, Paige is a preschooler who more than anything wants a pet. All of her preschool friends have various pets. Each Wednesday they bring their pets to ‘Bring a Pet to Preschool’ to share with their friends. Paige is the only one without a pet. She begs her parents and when they ask her to be patient, they also say “Not today . . . but someday, you may have a pet,” Paige reacts by raising one eyebrow, puckering up her face, scrunching up her nose, putting one hand on her hips and begging her case. To make matters worse, she finds out that instead of getting a pet she gets a new brother – named Justin. Frustrated Paige Persnickety must learn to be even more patient, until when one preschool pet day, no one brings a pet . . . Paige’s parents walk in. Confused, Paige asks why they are there, baby brother Justin is not a pet. But they do have a surprise for her.

No More Books

Can you imagine a place without books, magazines, newspapers or any type of reading material? How terrible! In this fiction picture book, this horrible event happened. How did it happen and why? The story follows a little girl named Brianna, who like everyone else in Pineappleburg loves books. Brianna has her own special book, The Magic of Books, which by the end of the story truly exhibits its own magic through her reading. The cast of colorful characters includes Cousin Wolf, Ms. Wiseowl, Mr. Peacock, Ms. Flamingo – and enchanting places: Pineappleburg, The Blue Elephant Bookshop, the town library, Pineappleburg Elementary School, and Cousin Wolf’s Den which all lends fantasy and wonder to the story.

Cayce’s Freckled Christmas

Cayce hates her freckles and wants to get rid of them by Christmas. An Italian neighbor tells her that if she finds a snail and puts it on her face, its wet trail will erase her freckles.
She searches by the creek in her back yard and eventually finds a snail in an empty can. Cayce lays down, puts the slimy snail on her face, then falls asleep. She dreams about her Grandpa and Christmas. Her dream startles her into waking up. She runs home to look in the mirror. Did she get rid of her freckles or not?
